06:45 pm - June Book Log
Apparently, June is over and done with, so it's time for this again! June turned out to be a very busy, and slightly stressful month, which I think did have some effect on both my book choices and the way I responded to them.

04:27 pm - This Post Is Brought To You By Tiredness And Stress
Remix story is due on Sunday. I am working 12-hour shifts on Sunday and Saturday. And I am discovering that there is, in fact, a very, very good reason why, under ordinary circumstances, I do not wait until the last plausible moment before a ficathon deadline to start writing.

*whimper*
Current Mood: Tired and stressed. Didn't you read the title?

02:40 pm - I've Really Got To Finish This Sometime.
I really, really should be working on my Remix story. But, thanks to RL being extra annoying lately, I haven't managed to do anything beyond picking out a story to work with. And that deadline is rushing towards me disturbingly fast. Meep.

Ah, well. For now, I will instead distract myself with this WIP meme, by way of lost_spook, which tells us to post 7 lines from the 7th page of a current WIP.

I only have one of those, the The-Master-meets-Rumplestiltskin Doctor Who/OUaT crossover thing that has been languishing unfinished and un-worked-on for over a year now. Page 7, as it happens, starts only a few paragraphs into our heroes' -- er, our villains' -- first encounter. Which probably tells you something about why the story's been stalled out forever. Long fic is haaaaaard! And I'm pretty sure I've never before written one where it took nearly six pages for the main characters to even meet.

Anyway. Seven lines (not counting the paragraph break):

The Master grits his teeth against a sudden, violent surge of impatience and forces himself to remain calm. "That 'cabinet,'" he says, "is the most scientifically advanced piece of equipment this benighted planet has ever seen, or ever will."

"Oh, science, hmm? I've seen that. Can't say I was all that impressed." But he pulls the blade from against the Master's neck at last, tossing it casually over his shoulder, where it vanishes in a puff of purple smoke before it hits the floor. "But all right. On the off chance that I'm interested... What is it you want to trade this 'science' of yours for?"

Clearly, no good will come of this.

02:46 pm - May Book Log
Well, this turned out to be quite a month! Mostly just because, in among the usual varied assortment of books, I somehow managed to read two five-star books in the space of two days. That's never happened before, and, given how seldom I give out the five-star rating, I'll be surprised if it ever does again.

Anyway. May's reading:

47. Invader by C. J. CherryhCollapse )

48. Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything?: How the Famous Sell Us Elixirs of Health, Beauty & Happiness by Timothy CaulfieldCollapse )

49. Salsa Nocturna by Daniel José OlderCollapse )

50. Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette WintersonCollapse )

51. Follow the Money: A Month in the Life of a Ten-Dollar Bill by Steve BogganCollapse )

52. Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Rift by Gene Luen YangCollapse )

53. Inheritor by C. J. CherryhCollapse )

54. Regenesis: How Synthetic Biology Will Reinvent Nature and Ourselves by George Church and Ed RegisCollapse )

55. Three to Get Deadly by Janet EvanovichCollapse )

56. Life Among the Savages by Shirley JacksonCollapse )

57. Peter and the Secret of Rundoon by Dave Barry and Ridley PearsonCollapse )

58. Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul GawandeCollapse )

59. Of Mice and Men by John SteinbeckCollapse )

60. October Sky by Homer HickamCollapse )

04:05 pm - And The Completed Fic!
Okey-dokey, here's my intoabar story. Which I suspect may well currently be the world's only Welcome to Night Vale/Futurama crossover story.

Title: Good Interlopers and Bad Hamburgers
Prompt: Carlos goes into a bar diner and meets... Dr. Zoidberg!
Fandoms: Welcome to Night Vale/Futurama
Word count: ~1,900 words
Rating/Contents: G-rated. No warnings apply, other than possible spoilers for Night Vale's "One Year Later."

11:34 am - Well, That Was Much Easier Than Anticipated!
Whee! I just wrote my entire intoabar story! It'll still need editing, of course. But it's written! I sat down this morning, figuring I'd at least get started on it, even though I didn't have more than the opening scene and one line of dialog in my head. But once I started it, it just... didn't stop coming. Man, I love it when they do that! And I also love intoabar and its sweet, hilarious character combinations of crack. This one was a doozy, and writing it turned out to be a ridiculous amount of fun. Yayyyy!
